Junior Mechanical Application Designer

Location: Montreal, Canada
Reports To: Engineering Manager

DESCRIPTION

The Junior Mechanical Application Designer will assist the Senior Mechanical Application Designer. You will work to assess the costs of mechanical adaptations for a machine, as well as assisting with the design of mechanical systems and objectives on projects.

OBJECTIVES

  • Perform manufacturing projects within budget and on time
  • Perform manufacturing projects in order to meet quality standards
  • Perform manufacturing projects in order to meet and exceed the specifications established
  • Identify and properly transmit corrections to be made for the current project and future ones
  • Minimize downtime
  • Assist the Senior Mechanical Application Designer in the design of mechanical systems to meet the objectives of functionality and cost of projects in progress, and meet deadlines set up
  • Produce accurate assessments of functionality, realistic feasibility and optimal cost of the required elements for potential projects, while ensuring a clear understanding of the context in which these elements will be used to ensure consistency of systems
  • Action per project manager and application specialists as technical advisor and participate actively in the clarification of mandates and to identify associated risks
  • Support of technical service department with regard to requests for technical support and evaluation costs
  • Communicate appropriately to ensure that project managers are adequately informed about the progress of work and facilitate implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessment of costs of mechanical adaptation.
  • Participation in assembly production records involving mechanical adaptations
  • Participation in projects involving mechanical adjustments within budget
  • 2D and 3D design of mechanical adaptations to standard products
  • Fabrication drawings of mountings
  • Supervision of designers to assist him in his projects
  • Support for production projects for which it is responsible
  • Switching adaptive systems respecting the mechanical functionality and performance required
  • Preparation of specifications for mechanical solicitation of suppliers
  • Communication with suppliers in the case of revised projects
  • Preparation of requisitions for equipment purchases or special components.
  • Participate in the development of options or asking simple mechanical standards of the metrics
  • Participate in the approval process of drawings
  • Evaluation of feasibility and cost of applying revisions to the service department (adding options on equipment sold, adapter parts, etc.)
  • Support for the service department in adding options, new & spare parts

TRAINING & KNOWLEDGE

  • Technical Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Fluent in French & English (spoken & written)
  • Inventor, AutoCad 2004 or later
  • Familiar with mechanical and pneumatic components and current manufacturers and suppliers

EXPÉRIENCE

  • 3 to 5 years experience in design and manufacture mechanical
  • 1 year with AutoCad
  • 2 years with Inventor (Mechanical Desktop an asset)
